Having moved into the twenty-first century, Taiwan is now witnessing acceleration in its social, economic, and political reforms. Accordingly, there have been paradigm changes in employee-employer relations as well as other labor related issues. Labor research is a discipline that focuses on laborers and the interaction between employees, employers, and government policies. Currently, there are limited domestic studies that have focused on this area. Therefore, this university established the Institute for Labor Research in August 1991, the Department of Labor Relations in August 1997, and an on-job master’s program in September 1999 to speed up the training of domestic professionals who are specialized in labor relations as well as in the theory and practice of labor research. Furthermore, we, the faculty of the department, have committed ourselves to the education, research, promotion, and international exchange of labor-related topics so that labor research as an academic discipline can be further developed.
